A line chart that indicates upper and lower control limits for desired performance. Plot points beyond the limits are considered unacceptable.

A chart showing how a process is operating over time, with time or successive items or batches as the x-axis. On the y-axis are plotted key measures of the process and the limits (upper and lower control limits) in which the process is expected operate. Applicable to all types of process: manufacturing, transactional and services. Used to highlight out of control behaviour due to special cause variation. See Statistical Process Control.
